A 22-year-old woman in Rajasthan's Barmer district died by suicide on Friday, a day after marrying a man, police said. A woman updated her WhatsApp status - her suicide note - suggesting she was in a relationship with a man who was found dead in a water tank on the day of her wedding to another man, on July 4. She returned to her father's house in Shobhala Jetmal village on Friday and went to graze cattle, Dhorimanna Station Officer Sukhram Bishnoi said.

According to a preliminary investigation, police said they believed the man she was in a relationship with had died by suicide. His body was found in a tank, but her family had previously told police he had drowned in an accident. Police said they now believe he also died by suicide.

Police said her WhatsApp status message was updated shortly before her death. It read: “We swore to live or die together. Why did you leave me alone in this world, I come to you. Sorry for the two-day delay."

When she didn't return for a long time, the family started looking for her. Someone later spotted her body floating in a water tank and alerted the police.
